Odelice is Okay

Landale Street is a Wan Chai tiny road packed with restaurants. We’ve already visited Dalat Vietnamese Restaurant on that road – this time we’re at Odelice!, a casual French and western eatery that also sells wine. The resto has two other branches in Shanghai, and this one’s their newest establishment. I haven’t tried any of their wines, but I have tried a variety of items off their menu.

For my lunch set, I ordered their pasta of the week, a Salmon Fusilli with Avocado Lemon Cream sauce, plus their soup of the week, Pumpkin Soup. The pasta was kind of alright: The salmon was literally smoked salmon slices re-cooked. The avocado lemon cream sauce was light and delicous – the hint of lemon was just enough to bring a fresh tartness to the meal. This sauce was the dish’s only saving grace.

The pumpkin soup came in a coffee cup and served with a teaspoon. The presentation was odd, but the taste was good: not too sweet, not too salty. The coffee was served a delectable gingerbread biscuit and with steamed milk on the side. As it was milk and not cream, the coffee was a little thinner than I liked, but that’s not really a big deal.

As lemon is my favorite flavor, I had to try the Butter, Sugar, and Lemon Crepe as a post-lunch dessert. It came folded into a large square, with the sugar on top and lemon juice on the side. It was not a bad crepe, as the lemon juice was very tart and flavorful, but it also wasn’t anything special: The crepe itself was just spongy and lacked elasticity, ending up tasting like a super-thin pancake.

The entire experience was okay: There wasn’t anything particularly bad or particularly good about having lunch here, but the establishment itself did have a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service. Though they do have brunch options on the weekend, I probably won’t be coming out of my way just to eat here.
